How To Select Gems

Our earth is the mother of all gems. Our mother earth has a mass of so many varieties of valuable and amazing gems that appears endless. Diamond, pearl, emerald, topaz etc. each one better than another. With their look, colour etc. they allure and charm us to the extent that once you set your eyes on them you want to get lost in their world.

Man is a lover of nature and has always been desirous of possessing every beautiful thing, that is why he wore gems. With his knowledge he tried to understand their qualities and after a long process of devoted labour he came to know that not only gems have a deep relation with the rays of the planets but also the fact that if selected properly they can precipitate a complete transformation in his life and give the strength to fight opposing forces (forces generated from within, by society or by circumstances.) In other words they give complete power for abundant life energy.

The Indian tradition of gems mention 84 gems, out of which nine are main and Indian astrology is also based on nine planets. The Table A that follows presents an introduction of nine planets, their related gems/ stones, sub stones -

GEMS AND POSSIBILITIES

No one knows from when man has been using gems, but still there are innumerable possibilities hidden which have to explored. It is true that even today the selections of productive gems is a subject of profound and serious study .In the selection of gems there are two notable beliefs. First  according to the birth chart only that gem is to be worn which is related to a planet that is weak, so that the planet become strong and its negative influences could be quietened. The second beliefs to wear only such gem which is related to the planet that  is strong in the birth chart, so that the planet becomes stronger to nullify the negative influence of other planets .The above mentioned beliefs seem contradictory .But it is not, what is required is a correct understanding of astrological science. Actually, in the selection process the correct gem, besides the inter-relationship between planets and gems some basic principles of the birth chart play a very important role. This a long process which could be realized only through an experienced and learned astrologer. However, I am presenting below what I acquired from my short experience of near about three decades—

The birth chart or the horoscope have 12 houses which represents the twelve zodiacs. At the time of birth, the zodiac rising from the eastern horizon becomes the birth ascendant which becomes the first house and the remaining zodiacs are established in the remaining houses .The twelve Zodiacs become subordinate to the nine planets. 'Table B' makes it clear. Every 'janam lagna' (total 12) house the nine planets which become the lord of that particular house and since some house give positive results and some negative hence accordingly the planets also give their results. A planet which is lord of an auspicious  house if placed in an inauspicious house it becomes weak. Hence, if related gem is worn then the planet gets strength. Any planet which is lord of  the auspicious house, is in  the company of evil planets, is being seen by them or is impure in some ways then wearing the related gem will increase the negative influence of that planet.

Alongwith this, a planet which is beneficiary in all respects will produce its effect more prominently and if a gem related to this planet is worn it would undoubtedly be useful and if there is any obstacle in between it would be removed. In the birth chart, the Ascendant sign and the Lord of the Ascendant gives beneficial results to everyone. Hence, its related gem can be worn. A gem related to the moon sign generally gives beneficial results because moon represents mind and if favourable mental circumstances are created then it could be said to be in a happy condition. Many people have this knowledge of gem selection but because of four main reasons it could prove erroneous :

1-Ascendant Lord or Lord of the moon sign are corrupted under some evil influence. 2-Not leaving its effect by being in the first or last degrees or other reasons 3-Not matching with 'Dasha'. 4- Remain inactive in the fulfilment of the person's immediate desires. To determine the benefits of planets is a long process. However, in short it could be said that a gem related to planet could be worn if the particular planet is in an exalted sign or in a friendly sign, the planet is with naturally beneficent planets like Jupiter, Venus, strong moon (between the 8th day of 'Shukla Paksha' and 8th day of  'Krishna Paksha) and with favourable planets from the position of the birth chart (2nd, 3rd, 6th, 7th, 8th and 12th mostly given unfavourable results) or if they are in unfavourable aspects and are not with malefic planets Saturn, Mars, Sun. If the position of the constellation of every planet is seen in the birth chart then its strength could be evaluated and if it is counted from the constellation where moon is placed, whether planet is in a favourable constellation or not, then it would be easy to select the correct gem.

CAUTION NEEDED FOR SELECTION

If we observe 'Table B' then it will be clear that Rahu and Ketu are not the lords of any planet because they are shadow-planets. Being a shadow-planet they act in accordance with the sign and position where they are placed. Hence, gems related to them should be worn very cautiously. The same is with Mercury because it is a weak/impotent planet. However, the above process is useful for the study of all planets because planets are very much affected by signs. Every sign is an indicator of some abilities like Sun- Inner power, fame, hence if related gem is worn then these qualities will develop more in the native but the condition is that the placement of Sun in the birth-chart is favourable. If it is unfavourable, then these qualities will develop in a wrong direction. It is mentioned in 'Table C'. Along with this, exalted and friendly signs are also made clear so that the power/adorability of the planet can be determined. As mentioned earlier in every birth-chart, Lord of the signs gives favourable-unfavourable results based on the planetary positions of the signs. Hence, 'Table D' lists the gems which could be worn in accordance with Ascendant Sign or Moon Sign. If both are known then a gem would be more productive which is common to the Ascendant Sign and the Moon Sign.

Thus, by referring to 'Table C' and 'Table D' (Ascendant Sign & Moon Sign) the  correct gem could be selected.
