Today the result of Intermediate Board will be out on papers. Hari is anxious to know about it because his sister Anita has also appeared in this exam. He is standing in front of the press since 4'o clock with some of his friends.
Paper comes to his hand at 6'o clock and he soon finds the roll number of his sister in column of second division. 124381-he murmured the roll number and for accuracy he took out the piece of paper from his pocket. Same figure was there and he then kept that piece of paper back in his pocket.
He was happy but at the same time it was amazing as the members of the family expected Anita's first division. Any how this matter didn't puzzle his mind for too long when he was asked by his friends for party. He took them to a coffee corner where they enjoyed cold coffee and snacks. From there near at 7'o clock he returned back to his house with a packet of sweets and gift for his loving sister.
Just as he reached the doors of the house he shouted, "Anita, Anita". Having no response from inside he rang the bell and after some moments the door was opened by his mother. "Where is Anita?" he asked. "Where she will be? She is in her room", mother replied in an angry tone. "What is this in your hand ?", she asked. "Nothing simply sweets and gift for Anita. She has come second", Hari told. "We know that too that she is second but why this present for her? She has neither topped nor she is first then...." mother argues. "Then what mother? After all she has passed her exam." Hari gave an impression of joy.
"Passed her exam!! oh what nonsense", her mother murmured. Hari stepped to his sister's room without taking notice to her word. There he saw her sister looking very sad. He said, "oh you Anita, why are you looking so uneasy? Accept my congratulations and this present."
Anita still remained silent. Her lips wanted to say something but her mind was not allowing her to speak a single word. Her eyes were still and wet, perhaps in search of a place where she could find some relief. Hari said further, "Anita do you know that mother has a lot of hope from you because you have laboured hard and being practical in nature, she herself does not know that her hard words can pinch you. Anyway, I am sure that soon she will realize her mistake. As far as your result is concerned, I have heard many people saying that this year printing machine is behind all this nonsense. Hope is life dear.Come on, now cheer up. Say thanks to me for this gift."
After a fortnight's gap, Anita and her mother went to college where they both burst with tears of joy when they were congratulated by the principal for Anita's securing first division with distinction in three subject.
Now as soon as both saw each other Anita could read distinctly the impression in her mothers eyes which wanted to say, "I AM SORRY DEAR".
It's worth mentioning here that soon Anita's mother embraced her.
